Facebook, the gate no 2 to Internet: Kings of Disaggregation

Continuing from the last week, let us look at another gate that you use for the Internet marketplace. Allow me to take you back to the Dubai mall and the experience of buying a sports shoe for yourself. We talked about the importance of setting up an advertisement near the entry gate or having a store near the gate.

Now let us consider the case that when you entered the gate, you saw a discount offer by Adidas and you saw Nike Store just around the corner from your entry gate. I said earlier that you may be tempted to get into the Nike store and if you got a good deal, you may end up buying and Nike and forget about the Adidas offer.

Now let us consider another scenario, even before you entered the Nike store, you saw a friend of yours. You greet him, and the discussion comes around why you are in the mall. When you talk about buying sports shoes, he tells you to forget both Nike and Adidas and recommends that you should only consider Asics, he says that he has used all three and that the Asics is by far the best. The entire experience of testing your running pattern by a simulation and selecting the shoe that is most appropriate for you, far outweighs any savings that you might make by discount offers. He knows that you are a serious athlete and asks you not to compromise and just go for the best. Sports shoes are something that you will experience every day, so he asks you to seriously reconsider.

What will you do? Under the circumstances, I would have definitely looked up the Asics store, and even if it was a little way off, I would definitely go and pay a visit to Asics. Well, you know the possibilities after that!

So, what do you think now? Is Facebook not the referral network? Is it not where you ask for references for things and services you need on a daily basis.

What if Facebook can you use this information to share the relevant ads with you, if someone refers Asics to you, Facebook can display the location of the nearest store or share with you that you can enjoy a 5% cashback on your Visa card and any other appropriate cues.

You may disregard the advice given by Google if your friends on Facebook say otherwise. This thus is the second gate to the Internet, and a more potent gate as far as I am concerned.

Stay tuned for more next week.
