Continuing to Explore the Pine Labs Platform : Queens of Disaggregation

Continuing from last week, this week I will be continue to expand on the model for Pine Labs.

As I said last week a platform must address the needs of at least two or more communities that interact on it. We have covered two communities already, namely the merchants and the banks. Now let us explore a complex business case scenario that Pine labs technology can enable.

Consider that Apple has just launched two new phone iphone 8 and 8s, now let us see the following sequence of events.

  • You are looking for a phone and you went to a merchant.
  • You consider your budget and while you want to buy 8s, you settle for 8.
  • Apple wants more 8s sales where possible and is willing to subsidize, but without reducing the price of 8s.
  • Apple ties up with HDFC and creates a new offer.
  • HDFC provides zero cost 6 EMIs on 8s and Apple pays HDFC a smaller interest that what they would charge for a consumer loan.
  • Apple gives incentive to merchant to sell more 8s and both Apple and HDFC advertise this scheme.
  • So when you go to the billing counter, and swipe the HDFC Card, the message pops up and the guy tells you that you are a lucky customer and that HDFC offers a 0% EMI scheme on 8s just for you.
  • If you another card, the merchant will ask you if you have an HDFC Card.
  • You finally can afford the phone that you always wanted.
  • Merchant gets a bigger sale and bigger incentive
  • People with multiple cards, tend to use HDFC and HDFC benefits.
  • HDFC also gets small interest on this sale from Apple.
  • Apple gets to sell more 8s, make it more popular while protecting the market price.

All get benefited. Right! A platform like Pine Labs makes it easier for a Vendor like Apple to tie up with Banks and facilitate the easier launch of these schemes. See how many people can get benefited when the platform connects them, integrates them and enable people to play with real data and form quick alliances?

The right platform is not just about the platform, it is about how to facilitate unique value propositions for the people on the platform. Such is power of a great platform.

Stay tuned for more next week.
