What I learned from Mr. Anthony McLachlan at Nortel – Part 7
July 22, 2019
Continuing from last week, today I will be sharing another lesson from Anthony. This is one of the two lessons that one of my mentors, “Malur” reminded me of. We all had a chance to work with Anthony, during those good old days of “Nortel”.
Horses for Courses
Anthony was a strong believer that each of us have our strengths and weaknesses and not everyone can excel at every job. If a leader has to succeed he/she must learn about his/her team members and make sure that he divides responsibilities in such a way that each person gets a chance to do his/her best.As leaders we may sometimes run away from spending time to know the team and work with them in detail. Quite a lot of knowing the team happens outside of work interactions and that means more time and effort on the part of the leader.
I wish that all leaders realize the importance of task of knowing and developing people and that they allocate a fair amount of time to this effort. Of all the efforts this will definitely pay you back, many times!
Stay tuned for more next week!
