What I learned from Mr. Anthony McLachlan at Nortel – Part 3
Continuing from last week, let me share one more simple thing that Anthony taught me.
A meeting with the Execs should never be taken lightly
Customer meetings are tough, and many times we face a lot of heat from them. Sometimes we are trying to convince them to give us the orders and sometimes we need to face the heat because of the problem with the product or services we supplied. But then that is a part of the job for any sales / solutions person.
But what do you think of the meetings with your own Executives, the Leadership team?
Most of the times you meet them during business reviews or during the prep meetings before you go together to meet a customer. Anthony taught me to be prepared for these meetings. In simple words, he said that treat each such meeting as a “Job Interview”. You must convince the Exec that you the right person for the job and that his / her efforts will not be wasted in supporting you to achieve company objectives.
I hope that all of you can do take this advice seriously and be really “Ready” for such meetings.
