Continuing from last week, let me explain this week as to what is the key reasons that I believe the operators have a good chance.
a) A report by Gartner says that 91% of today’s data is created and processed in the “centralized” data centers, but by 2022 75% of all the data will be processed at the edge.
b) The economics of a large data center are very different from smaller, distributed data centers that require external connectivity. I believe that the Web-Scale will realize that it is not in their best interest to set up thousands of small data centers. They will have to tie up with the operators.
Next week we will see how operators can leverage this unique opportunity to monetize their “edge”.
