Apps tunnel through Internet : Kings of Disaggregation

Continuing from last week, let us expand upon the concept of mobile apps. Let us start with an extract from Wikipedia:

“A mobile app or mobile application is a computer program or software application designed to run on a mobile device such as a phone/tablet or watch. Apps were originally intended for productivity assistance such as Email, calendar, and contact databases, but the public demand for apps caused rapid expansion into other areas such as mobile games, factory automation, GPS and location-based services, order-tracking, and ticket purchases, so that there are now millions of apps available…….

In 2009, technology columnist David Pogue said that newer smartphones could be nicknamed “app phones” to distinguish them from earlier less-sophisticated smartphones.”

In older days if you had someones phone number on your contact, you got more chance of winning a business from them. People like to buy from people they know and can trust. If you have a job that needs to be done, and you have a contact that can undertake it, I guess that is where you start, if the proposal is decent, you close the deal and get on with it. But in case you do not have a contact, your first stop I guess will be Google!

Apps are a bit more than contact, they are much more than phone number, they are a direct gateway to your business. It is like your business now has a window dedicated to the consumer who has the app installed. This window allows the customer to consume your product directly, and enables to provide very customized services to him/her. The more app installs you have the better. Each app install is a customer, who will come to you first when they need some service or need to buy a product. If you have a decent offering and special looking deal, your chances of winning the business just increase exponentially.

So apps are like tunnels through the internet and they are a direct channel into your business. More apps, means less Google. I hope you agree. Let me know your thoughts.

Stay tuned for more next week!
