Network Transformation

When is it right to start a transformation?

Last week we looked at some of the big hurdles that force decision makes to postpone transformations or keep waiting for the right time.

Today we will discuss what are the three key indicators that the decision makers must not ignore:

The Dead End: When you find that the newly planned or foreseen business services will not get supported on your network. It could be scale, or flexibility, or any other parameter such as latency etc. which is critical to the future services and you know that the network that you have today will not be able to cater to them. 5G is one such example, where existing infrastructure will seriously fall short of expectations and the operators may not be able to ignore transformations.

Higher Cost for Service: You realize that you have to add new layers in the network to support services since you already have some infrastructure that was never designed to support new services. Anybody with a greenfield network will be able to achieve much lower cost for the same service. Carrying out transformations may be costly but delaying them may be even more costly.

Greater Time to Market: Adding new services becomes time consuming as you have too many layers and too many touch points in your network. Your brand starts taking a hit in the market because of these delays and you realize that the time to transform is now.

I guess, it is already a bit late if you transform when you see these indicators and it will cost you more to transform, but if you ignore these indicators and still try and postpone the transformation, it may cost the company much more.

Stay tuned for more next week.
