What I learned from a story about Steve Jobs

Lets again deviate a bit from last week. Today I will share a lesson that learned from a story I read about Steve Jobs. This is from the time that he was let go from Apple. He purchased a Pixar and was in the process of setting up the new office. You can read the complete story here.

Teamwork is more important that Technology.

He relocated the company to an abandoned factory and scrapped the design to have separate buildings for “Computer Scientists”, “Animators” and “Executives”. Instead he insisted on implementing one single large open hall with a big open space in the center.

He then made sure that most people got to that place in the routine work, by moving the mailboxes to that place. He then moved all meetings rooms, coffee shops and gift shop to that room. He believed that interaction created possibilities. Brad Bird, director of Ratatouille said, ” …Steve realised that when people run into each other when they make eye contact, things happen.”

I wish that all of you figure out a way to bring your people together and make magic happen. Teamwork is the “secret ingredient” for success.

Stay tuned for more next week.
